SEQUINO: Have you always lived in the Philadelphia area?

HOLLAND: No I grew up on Long Island. It is not too much different from here… LI was a lot more crowded and urbanized. I hate the Eagles, but I like living next to an awesome city such as Philly. There is a lot of character in this area.

SEQUINO: What is your role here at Cairn?

HOLLAND: I am the Student Program Coordinator. I primarily oversee all of the large-scale events on campus. While RHA and all of the other organizations reach out to the residents at their particular sites, Student Program’s goal is to reach out to the entire student body. I also oversee the Student Program Association (SPA). SPA is probably my most favorite part of my job. Although I love planning events and coming up with new ideas, what I love the most is seeing how much the students who are a part of the SPA team grow in their faith over the course of a few years. It brings me great joy to see the incredible leaders that they turn into.

SEQUINO: How has Cairn equipped you to serve in your new role both spiritually and academically?

HOLLAND: I was a part of the Youth & Family Ministry program here. My parents used to tell me that I would never be able to get a job..however, I knew and trusted that God would work it out. As a Youth Min major I was trained to keep track of information, to lead students, as well as taught how to disciple well. The mission that is poured out at Cairn has helped me so much. I was surprised with actually how well I was prepared for the position I am in now. Spiritually, Cairn encourages students to take their life into their own hands. As a student I was not always the biggest fan of that concept. Now that I have graduated, I appreciate that aspect much more because in the real world, there is no one telling me to read my bible, to go to church, etc…I have to do it all on my own.

SEQUINO: What is your most memorable moment from being a student here?

HOLLAND: The first one would most definitely be getting engaged to my now, wife, Martha… By far the most memorable moment. My second cherished moment, I have to say, were all of the given moments that I thought were insignificant at the time. Those in-between moments…whether it was the time between classes, at lunch, or the times I was able to interact with the people here. The everyday life. I have many memories, but I would trade all of those for the simple moments with my friends here.

SEQUINO: What are some things that you are looking forward to this semester?

HOLLAND: I am of course excited for the Highlander Games…but as a fellow comic book nerd I am most excited for the Marvel Movie Marathon coming up in February! I am also excited for the Gala! I think the students are really going to love it this year. The SPA event is also something I am looking forward to…I love getting to see my SPA team’s efforts come together and for them to be able to say, “I did that.”
