Formerly known as the Sunday Breakfast Association, Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission was founded in 1878, making it one of the longest-run rescue missions in the U.S. For over 130 years, this non-profit has been meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of homeless men and women in the greater Philadelphia region in the name of Jesus Christ.

Many of you, if you have not been there already, are fairly familiar with the Sunday Breakfast Thrift Store just down the road from our campus. This is one of the two thrift stores operated by SBRM. The other thrift store, Beehive & Beehive Too, can be found in Northeast Philly!

When you walk into the Thrift store, you will find it is much bigger than it looks from the exterior. As you enter, you will first walk through some discounted furniture, and some wall art that you could for sure use to spice up your dormitory! Then you will proceed up a ramp and if you rear to your right will see a large selection of shoes, coats, and clothing galore! Other home good items can be found in the area to the left of the ramp (such as a variety of mugs to store that coffee you love so much in).

The sales and profits that Sunday Breakfast makes from both thrift stores, make up for 18% of their yearly income. This profit is what allows SBRM to offer meals, shelter, programs, as well as various services to those in need in Philadelphia. So not only do you get a good deal, but you are offering hope to many individuals who so desperately need it.

Keep that in mind next time you take a visit to Sunday Breakfast…

And if you get a chance, there are many volunteer opportunities for you to serve individuals a meal, and get to know their name and their story. SBRM is always in need of volunteers to serve meals at their shelter located at 302 N. 13th Street in Center City Philadelphia. This is a great opportunity for you to learn something new by stopping and taking the time to get to know and love your neighbors.
