The Indoor Garden

After the Williams’ lawn was drenched by the rain, the annual Garden Party faced a change in location. This year it was held in Chatlos Chapel, with extravagant lights, a large tent, and beautiful candlelit tables. With fresh flowers at every table, Rayhan Owens said “It was amazing to see the chapel transformed into something resembling an actual garden.” The hard work of so many paid off as they brought the feeling of nature indoors.

This new venue provided students with an enlarged dance floor, which turned out to be the highlight for many students. The playlist included more music that was easier to dance to and allowed for many to practice their swing dancing. It incorporated classics such as the Cha-Cha Slide, Cotton-Eyed Joe, and the Cupid Shuffle. As soon as any of these songs came on, the dance floor was flooded with eager party-goers.

To each side of the chapel, students sampled a variety of food and drinks. From barbequed chicken to mozzarella bread sticks, there was something for everyone. Later in the evening, dessert trays were brought out containing raspberry brownies, cream puffs, and the like. Sweet and savory delights were enjoyed by all who came.

Whenever a break was needed, students could escape to the courtyard for some fresh air. Although it was a smaller space, it was equally breathtaking with strings of lights, candles in paper lanterns, and colorful flowers. Here, there was some hot cider to warm up with and tables to rest at. It was a quieter space to chat and regain energy before returning to the dance floor.

Overall, the Garden Party was referred to as “a great night of friends, fun, love, and laughter” by students like Sara Waclawski. Many people worked hard to run this event, especially with the change in venue, and they nailed it. It was certainly a night to remember. And although the Garden Party was a beautiful and amazing effort, many students look forward to returning future parties to the Williams’ lawn where they can spread out in a true garden, because there is nothing quite like nature.
