Compass for a Pilgrimage

Written by Chris Amberge

This tiny formed and voidless sphere

Singing blessings and spitting curses at the innocent children of the Absolute

You find your place in the midst of this overwhelming narrative

The drama between gravity and the longing for transcendence

Yearning for more than a simple taste of the final rest you labor towards

But always marching in tandem with the opposing force of your God

The tumultuous world that raises its heel to stamp you out

Living before an off balance equilibrium of powers and might

Like a pendulum that swings between joy and despair, darkness and light

Ushering you into valleys that you somehow cannot summit

Or conquer despite finding yourself on the other side and asking how you got there

Mysterious forces and spiritual mechanisms churning around us

Beyond our sight but intimately close

Like the force of your beating heart that bleeds life throughout your veins

Animating the perils and plateaus of our pilgrimage

Yet at the center is a stillness found between a firm binding and gold tipped chapters

You find yourself again and again at its open face

Given respite in the forever favoring countenance of its Author

Magnetic love and conviction draws you back from what seems like the lightyears away

Breathing peace into your heart and mind by the certain knowledge of a good and powerful God

The hands which control all things envelop you

Requiring nothing more of you than knowing whose arms they are
