It was Homecoming, and Now We’re Going Home
By noon, on that bright and beautiful Saturday, Homecoming was still going strong. There were so many things to be a part of, where would you even start? The girls’ volleyball games were coming to an end. Rides were at their prime time. Lines were formed for the carnival rides, especially the Ferris wheel, a crowd favorite, and the Frisbee game was in full motion. Sadly, bubble soccer was cancelled due to the rain, but there was plenty for people to do. The girls’ soccer game was just about to start against Wilson College leading to an exciting game with a fulfilling victory. After several shots on goal and fighting to break their opponents defense line, goals from Ruitto (#19) and Hayduchok (#25) gave Cairn the two goals scored overtime that brought them to victory.
The excitement did not end there however. For the music lovers, the jazz band put on quite the show on the main walkway, gathering many specters that stayed for either part or most of the show. Most of them also had their phones out so they could enjoy the performance even after it was over. No one was displeased and the applause was well deserved. Children gathered at the art tent to have their faces painted and to make crafts with their parents. Tours were going all around campus showing prospective students and past students how the university had changed throughout the years and what Cairn has to offer. Alumni stopped by the booths on the walkway to buy Cairn gear and to see all the opportunities new to Cairn, all the while stopping by the food trucks, which never disappoint. What better way to keep you happy than with good food in your belly? It sets you up to have a good afternoon and indeed it was.
The afternoon ended with college guys walking through homecoming with red and bleached hair. Yes, it was the guys soccer team who either dyed their hair red or bleached it blonde in honor of homecoming. The men’s soccer game closed out the day, thrilling for both audience and players. They played against one of their most well-known contenders, Clark Summit, who gave the highlanders a hard battle to win. Despite the other team scoring an early goal, the highlanders did not desist. They persisted until the 13th minute when Kikendall (#7) scored the first highlander goal from a penalty kick. Keller (#23), Weaver (#8), and Goodyear (#4) scored the rest of the highlander goals, winning the game 4-1 against Clark Summit. All the dedication that was demonstrated by dying their hair was evident on the soccer field. It was the perfect icing on the marvelous cake that was Homecoming this year. Fans went back home purely satisfied with the day’s events, awaiting the next time they would get to come home to Cairn again.
