“Queen of Hearts”
Written by Mateo Garzon
The needle dragged against the spinning wheel
We sat at the table and delt the cards
You spilt some of your wine on my table
4We locked our eyes, and there it was
Certainly uncertain, knowing only what we know
But fairly certain on the uncertain
Do you or do you not
8That was the mystery of this game
Similar to poker, I was all in, I thought I knew your cards
In your eyes I saw the stars, in mine you saw the cards
I called your every bluff, but you had the better hand
12You won the jack pot, my ace of hearts in your hand
The needle skipped, the room fell silent
We sat across each other, till we didn’t
You got up leaving the wine to stain
16You were gone, till you returned
You flipped the record, now you play a different tune
I feel as if I heard this one before
Similar to the last, but somehow completely different
20I will hum along, just like before
Sat at the table we delt the cards
Your wine soaked into the table
You looked at it, then at me
24With the slightest grin and faintest blush
Our eyes met, and there it was once again
Uncertainly certain, knowing only what we know
But fairly uncertain on the certain
28Do we or do we not
In my eyes you saw the hole where my heart lay
In your eyes I saw your next card play
Lose or win, will you stay here
32You still have my ace, yet you choose not to play her
What’s your plan, are you all in
Its not a mystery, you drew a 2 of hearts
Do you plan to lose, I plan to win36In my hand the queen of hearts
