The Scrawl: A New Cairn Christmas Tradition
It’s that time of year again, Cairn! The time of year where everyone is sick of Christmas before Christmas even starts. That’s why we at The Scroll propose a new fictitious holiday to celebrate here at Cairn as part celebrating the Lord’s birth.
Channel your inner David Tennent to pronounce this one, because we’re calling it Nollaig Cairn-heil!
Why, you ask? We’re embracing our Scottish heritage by playing on the Scotch Gaelic words for Merry Christmas (Nollaig Chridheil), and adding our own unique Cairn twist!
This will be is a holiday wherein Cairn alumni and students alike all gather for various holiday themed stations. We’ve asked your thoughts on what these stations should be, and suggestions include:
Christmas Goose Hunting. No geese will be harmed in the making of this new tradition. We’ll simply have a contest to find the best goose on campus (the one who didn’t walk along the road while we were already late for class) and dress him up in elf ears and a little Santa beard!
Hat Contest for the Williams. All students design a hat best suited for the literal heads of our school’s metaphorical heads!
Sledding from Manor to Heritage. Whoever’s first to the Great Room gets to walk back up immediately to catch a non-cancelled class that takes place before 1:30pm.
Deck the Rock. Find the old big rock and leave milk and cookies there (and definitely don’t go back later to eat them).
You’ve Heard of Elf on the Shelf, now get ready for…Dwelt of the Celt. Now that Cairn has a mascot, we think it’s time for The Highlander to participate in a reenactment in which the Highlander attends of the birth of Jesus for a living Nativity show!
Theologically Sound Caroling. Just what it sounds like.
What do you think of our proposal? Will “Nolliag Cairn-heil” become the next Cairn tradition? Send in your ballots today. The holidays are right around the corner and we want to celebrate them in the most Cairn way possible!
