World Reach Week: A Week of Discovery
World Reach Week, formally known as Global Missions Week. Some know this week as the week to get out of in class lectures by listening to some unknown person talk about some mission in a country they have never heard of before. Others know it as the week to get free candy and a bunch of pamphlets and business cards that they may or may not look at later. But most know this week for what it is: an opportunity to hear from missionaries all around the world with different ways of helping other communities. These people take this marvelous opportunity to ask questions about these missionary fields, either to give support, or to join them.
This year’s World Reach Week focuses on Discover. It focuses on allowing students to explore the different outreach programs and look for ways to get involved in the lives of other people.
Missionaries and Outreach Program representatives have set up tables all over Cairn, including on each level of the BLC, the lobby of the MAC, and the lobby in front of Chapel. Be sure to seek out these helpful resources and ask them about their ministries to see if you are interested in joining them. Some of these outreaches offer jobs to people when they get out of college, such as teaching jobs in foreign countries, or pastoral opportunities.
What else to look for this week:
- Worship and Song Around the World, Tuesday January 28th at 1:40 pm in BL 210, hosted by Mrs. Whitney of Cairn’s music program
- Traditional Asian Meal, Wednesday January 29th in the ADR. Email divinity@cairn.edu to sign up
- God’s Story: Where do you fit? Thursday January 30th at 12:15 pm in BL 210
- World Feast, Thursday January 30 at 7 pm in Heritage Hall
- Missionary Interest Lunches, Friday January 31st at 12 pm in the ADR
Be sure to take all the opportunities afforded to you during this week to reap the most benefit from this annual event. For more information, see Student Life or the Student Weekly Announcements.
Be sure to look for an article later this week about some students on campus who come from missionary families!
