During the Pro-Life March in Harrisburg last September, nine Cairn students promoted the sanctity of life among over 5,000 people. Two of those students were able to represent our up-and-coming Cairn Pro-Life Club on stage as an organization that seeks to raise awareness for the pro-life community.

“We were really just there to be with the other thousands of people taking a stand,” Kyla, the president of the club shared. “It was just the outward acknowledgement that we think that life should be cherished.”

A new edition to Cairn, the Pro-Life Club has been meeting since last semester, and they’re excited for the upcoming months as they seek to expand.

Chas, a junior, was inspired to start the group after encouragement from his professor. He is now a regular member and helping promote the club’s mission as they find their footing. Their mission statement is: “to honor and glorify God by educating students about the issue of abortion, advocating on behalf of the unborn, and promoting the sanctity of life from conception to natural death.” For one meeting last semester, the club had a movie night where they watched Gosnell–a film about the trial of an abortion doctor–and during regular meetings, speakers inspire advocacy and education on understanding abortion laws. One of the goals of the club is to eventually join the Students For Life of America organization, which has over one thousand campus groups and provides volunteer opportunities and training for pro-life advocates. Another hope is to raise attendance, so that they can become an official Cairn club and host more regular events.

When asked what he would want someone to know about the Pro-Life club, Chas shared,

“I think a perception that a lot of people have for the club is that we’re not willing to engage in discourse…but even if you’re pro-choice still come to the meetings. We want to hear your opinions.”

Although its mission is clear, the club wants to be a safe place for discussion and debate. So no matter your background or beliefs, go check it out!
