On August 31, 2022, Cairn University unveiled the Highlander, Cairn’s new mascot who is ready to represent and cheer on our Cairn Athletics sports team. But who is the Highlander? What is he like? These are the questions that echoed across campus as students anxiously awaited more information about our new masked friend.

After days of tracking down the elusive mascot, the Scroll was able to secure an interview with the Highlander featuring reader submitted questions. The following is a Scroll exclusive interview:

What is your favorite part of the day?

My favorite part of the day is after dinner, having the freedom to choose what to do next with no weight of classes holding me back.

– Have you ever wielded the Highland Claymore? If not, do you plan to?

As the Highlander, it is required that I hold the claymore as I have not yet.

–  What is your favorite Pokémon?

My favorite has to be between Lugia or Charizard. Both of them were my first to have when starting my Pokemon adventure.

– What is your favorite hymn?

It is a difficult choice between It is Well with my Soul or How Great Thou Art. If I had to choose one, it would be How Great Thou Art as it has been one of the timeless hymns with great story and meaning.

– Will you learn the Highland Fling?

Yes, the fact I have not learned it already means I better get to work on it.

– What are you most excited about in your new role as mascot?

I am most excited about lifting the spirits of the crowd and being able to put a smile on everyone’s face!

And there you have it folks. Be sure to catch the Highlander at sporting and school events throughout the semester! As we’ve discovered, the Highlander is friendly and very excited about his new role in the Cairn community.

The Scroll would like to extend our gratitude to the athletic department and marketing department for helping make this article possible.
