SEQUINO: What is your first memory of playing basketball?

GOODMAN: My first memory of playing basketball was probably when I was four years old and there was a YMCA by my house that my parents coached at. My little sister, who was only three years old at the time, also played basketball. My dad is the one who taught me and my sister everything we know.

SEQUINO: Did basketball contribute to your decision to come to Cairn?

GOODMAN: Yes, I actually transferred here last school year. This was not my first pick, but I wanted to play basketball and I was told that no matter what, I would be able to play here.

SEQUINO: What valuable life lessons have you learned from being part of this team?

GOODMAN: This is my first season. I was a part of it the team last year but could not play because I was a transfer student. This team this year has taught me how to talk to people, and to be patient and know when to not lash out. It has also showed me the importance of making sure people understand what you are trying to say, or how you are coming across, so that words are not misinterpreted. Most importantly it has shown me that people have your back no matter what, and that your input matters. It is so important that everybody does their part.

SEQUINO: What are some of your team goals this season?

GOODMAN: Team-wise, we want to make it into the postseason. For me personally, I just want to keep playing. I love it and enjoy it. Even when we lose, we always try to have fun. Our hope is to glorify God in everything we do both on and off the court.

SEQUINO: Who is your biggest role model or someone you look up to? Why?

GOODMAN: That is a tough one…but definitely my mom. My whole life she has exhibited strength and perseverance. She has always been a stronghold for my family and I. When I get older and have a family of my own, I will look up to and appreciate all that my mom has taught me over the years.

SEQUINO: What will you miss most after you graduate and leave the team?

GOODMAN: My teammates and my coaches, especially. Seeing them everyday and being with the girls. My coaches are such a great support system…they worry about us both spiritually and emotionally. It is so great to have a support system like that when you are going through a difficult situation. Not everyone has that here. I will also miss the honesty and genuine people who truly care about more than your performance on the court.

SEQUINO: What are your long range goals as an athlete?

GOODMAN: Well, if I am honest I do not really know. There are so many things I want to do…Playing overseas is something I really want to do if I work hard enough. Right now I am simply going to enjoy the season that I am in, by taking life day by day.

SEQUINO: What does a successful season look like to you?

GOODMAN: Going through wins and losses, but at the end of it everyone is healthy, not injured, and we have come together closer as a family. Whether we ended on a successful note or not, we end it together.
