There are so many options, where do you begin choosing? Maybe this can help clear your mind. The Cairn Student Activity fair bloomed Friday, September 7th. Few people were absent as the Heritage Hall Greatroom buzzed with conversation. Club representatives brought their A games to present a competent face to the students who came looking to fill up their spare time with something they are passionate about.  Whether you are passionate about writing, adventuring, gaming, helping the community around you, or just connecting with other people, there is a place for you at Cairn! There is no reason to be left behind, and no one was.

If you weren’t there, don’t worry. Here below we’ll summarized some of the clubs available to you all year long. It’s never too late, or too early, to join.

Student Visual Arts Society (SVAS):

This club is for the art lovers or for those who enjoy the occasional artistic activity. The Student Visual Arts Society is a great way to engage with the art community at Cairn. Participate in art discussions, galleries, community art projects, and workshops hosted by the members of SVAVS and art professors who are passionate about art. No, it’s not only for art students, and no, you don’t have to be an art expert in any way to be part of SVAS. Just bring a smile and a disposition to be creative (and any empty stomach for the occasional snacks available).

Ascend Adventure Club:

This is the space for the people who love to go on adventures in the outdoors. The purpose of this club is to encourage and accompany other fellow outdoor enthusiasts on big or small adventures. This club is planning on doing activities like skiing, paintballing, hiking and indoor rock climbing. Don’t be afraid and don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity! These don’t come along often.

U-Link:

This is another opportunity for those who love working with kids in after school programs. U-Link is an afterschool program that works with kids located in the Penndel area. The kids go from the bus stop to an afterschool activity center where you will spend time playing with them, teaching them Bible stories, and reviewing what they have done at school. They are high energy, precious children from 1-6 grade that really enjoy our companionship. Watch out for any announcements and fliers to be involved in this club.

Milestone:

The Milestone is in charge of putting the yearbook together. You can participate by designing yearbook pages, and by taking photos at events, large or small. It’s freelance work on a first serve basis, so hurry if you want to work with the yearbook! It’s a very special project. It holds very special memories for all students and faculty members that they will then take with them when they leave Cairn.

Student Program Association (SPA):

Do you want to help plan campus wide events? This is the place for you. SPA is the organization that puts together the biggest events of the year. They plan for the Hoe Down, Garden Party, and the End of the Year Gala, which are all milestones of the school year. If you want a say in what gets to happen at these events, get involved in planning them. You have the power of deciding how fun the Cairn community is going to be.

ENACTUS:

ENACTUS provides you the opportunity to act on program ideas you might have. They are in charge of student lead programs or initiatives to improve campus and off campus life. It’s an incredible space to network and meet people in the community around us. Not only that, but it also helps you learn and improve your business skills whether this is your major or not. This club is also a proud prize holder for their excellent proactiveness to serve. It will definitely get you moving if you are eager for change.

Education Teacher Club:

This club is for everyone who is doing education in some shape or form. The Education Club was created to help future teachers empower and prepare the next generation to face the world. Being a teacher is a great responsibility, preparing students academically, socially, spiritually, and mentality to be life-long learners, and might seem overwhelming, but don’t worry, this club will help you feel more prepared. Plus, they organize a trip to Washington D.C. as a break for anyone involved in the club!

Chi Beta Sigma:

Chi Beta Sigma is the club run by social workers. If this is your major, congratulations! You are automatically in. Even if you don’t do social work, this club provides you the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with your classmates and community around you. This club organizes dinners, activities, and service opportunities all related to chapel. If you want a say in what happens in chapel and the action that goes behind the scenes, this is the place for you.

Resident Hall Association (RHA):

Events are being planned all the time, and this is another club that’s in charge of them. RHA focuses on helping organize resident hall events both in Heritage and in Manor Hall. Some of these events include Party on Arch Street and the Heritage Hall Party. Don’t miss out of being serving your community! This team is constantly working together to make life at the residence halls more exciting.

Highlander Historians:

Do you enjoy history? Do you enjoy having discussions about current and past events and how they affect you today? This club will make sure that your opinions are heard and expanded. This is a low commitment club that welcomes in anyone who is eager to speak with others that are just as passionate about history as they are. This club also has the bonus of a funny email to brighten up your day, whether you attend to the meetings or not. It’s a win-win situation all around.

Student Cultural Society:

This is the perfect place to talk about the tough, sensitive subjects, the problems affecting our society that are overlooked in Christian community. Be prepared to have serious conversations about women rights, cultural appropriation, etc. It’s a great opportunity to come in contact with other culture you are not familiar with and develop a new perspective and point of view on these important themes. Christians need to address every issue that our society faces today.

Mu Kappa:

Are you an international student? Lived as an MK (missionary kid) most of your life? Mu Kappa is designed specifically for you. Come into this safe space where everyone is going through some of the same emotions you are. Moving to another country might leave you feeling like an outsider, but not in this club. Mu Kappa celebrates diversity and helps you connect with people from all around the globe. It will feel like a home away from home.

So, have you made up your mind? There are so many good options to choose from, depending on your interest. However, there is no doubt that Cairn provides a space where everyone can enjoy a safe community space. And the list can expand! If you have a club initiative, don’t hesitate to make it a reality! Go online to the Cairn Student Portal and fill out the New Group Proposal form to start a new club. There is always space for more clubs in the Cairn community.
