The Way
I walked along a well-trod way
My feet beneath me traced
The paths of those who’ve gone before
In their same tracks, I chased
An answer to my unanswered prayer
An answer to my chase.
My face turned down to scenes ahead
My thoughts to my own pain
Heedless that the tracks I’ve tread
Had long before me lain
The answer to my unanswered prayer
The answer to my pain
Till plodding onto to all else blind
A stone I did not see
And stumbling o’er the stone I fell
And found my sight was free
To see the answer to my unanswered prayer
The answer finally free.
Then dusting off the sand of self
And looking to the side
I saw the souls ahead and back
Who like me, have failed and tried
To answer at last my unanswered prayer
To answer where many have tried
I look ahead to the path before
And aside to the weak and strong
And finally, I look up and above
To Him, where all along
Has lain the answer to my unanswered prayer
Has lain the answer all along
