Who killed the ambassador? Was it the Native American, angry about the people coming to take his land? Was it the notorious criminal couple, Bonnie and Clyde? Or was it the governor, low on funds and not so fond of the natives?

Friday night, Heritage opened its halls to host Clue Night, a murder mystery event with six likely suspects. This year’s mystery had a wild west theme, which revolved around the murder of an ambassador. She was sent to investigate the production of illegal moonshine, and to present a peace proposal between the settlers and the native people. Someone shot the ambassador when she began to give a speech in the center of town.

Here are your suspects:

  • Bonnie: She says she was in the woods making moonshine when the ambassador was shot. She shot at the Sheriff and the Deputy when they tried to give her the ransom money for the governor. In spite of her claim to be the best shot in town, she did not hit either of them.
  • Clyde: Clyde says he was drunk in the saloon, and he is notorious for running an illegal moonshine operation. He claims to have lost track of his wife while he was drunk.
  • Crazy Horse: He claims to have no experience with a gun, and only hunts with a spear. He is angry with the settlers.
  • Sacagawea: Like Crazy Horse, she only has experience with a spear, and she is upset that settlers are taking her land.
  • The Governor: He was in his office when the ambassador was shot, and he does not have a gun. He was kidnapped by Clyde. He lost a lot of money on gambling.
  • The Sheriff: She was in her office at the time of the crime. The Sheriff just cannot seem to keep Bonnie and Clyde in prison, but she is cracking down on crime. She does have access to a safe with guns, but it must be opened with two keys, one of which is carried by her Deputy.

Do you know who did it? It is time for the big reveal…

It was Clyde and the Governor! With the Governor’s gambling losses and with increased federal scrutiny, he needed to settle his debt quickly. Clyde depended on the bootlegging operation for money, even more so when the Sheriff started cracking down on crime. The Governor thought of the kidnapping to get the ransom money, and offered to split it with Clyde. Clyde only agrees to the idea if the Governor helps him keep his land, which the ambassador could have interfered with. This is why the Governor arranged for the ambassador to give her speech at a specific time and place, and he told Clyde where to shoot from to avoid getting caught. Finally, using the rifle skills that he taught Bonnie, Clyde shot the ambassador.

Thank you to SPA for hosting this event! Everyone enjoyed the plotline, the actors, and the rootbeer floats. Clue Night was a welcome break from midterms, and we look forward to another mystery to solve next year.
